Canon EF 14-24 f/2.8L Ultra-wide Soon!
No doubt, the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 is the best ultra wide lens currently out there. No canon ultra wide zoom can match it’s image quality. Well, I am not switching to Nikon for that reason and my Canon EF 16-35 f/2.8L II serving me quite well. Still, sometimes, I personally feel for a Canon lens like that. I saw some Canon shooters using it on their 5D II or 5D III with a special adapter. I can’t imagine enthusiasm and demand for such Canon Ultra Wide among canon shooters. Latest rumor and patent is suggesting, a Canon EF 14-24 f/2.8L lens announcement within the next 12 months.
As always, lens prediction is tough. It was suggested that the would be announced after the EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x begins shipping, suspected late in 2012 or the first half of 2013. Hope this lens will overcome some inconvenience of Nikon’s 14-24, like.. unable to use regular screw in polarizer filter due to lack of front filter thread!
What is Patent?
A lens cannot be patent, but an optical design can be patent. Not necessarily they will all end up in production line, but many patents actually have turned into a real product
